Treatment Services
The University Children’s Medical Clinic (Kinder-UKE) at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf treats patients with general pediatric diseases on an outpatient, day clinic or inpatient basis.
In addition, Kinder-UKE specializes in the treatment of rare, genetic, complex, and multifactorial disorders. Here, specialized treatment teams consisting of doctors, nurses, and non-medical specialists ensure individual and need-based care of our patients.
Degenerative brain diseases/ dementia in children
The main aim of our patient care teams in the field of degenerative brain disorders (eg. neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis and leukodystrophies) is to precisely diagnose the patient, to improve the quality of life of patients and their families (including palliative medical care) and to assist them with multidisciplinary care concept.
In addition, patients are offered accedd to approved novel treatments eg. Brineura® (Cerliponase alfa).
As a university medical center, we further aim to develop, implement and evaluate new and novel therapies. Therefore, medical teams closely cooperate with the molecular biology department of the clinic where a number of research projects are investigating underlying causes and mechanisms of NCL diseases.
Furthermore, we offer assistance in diagnosing unclear degenerative brain diseases.
