Welcome to the website of the Pediatric University Center for Innovative Therapies (ped.UCiT).
The ped.UCiT was founded in 2020 at the University Children's Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf with the main goal of enabling and accelerating translational medical approaches. The center consists of three units that cover the entire process from 'bench to bedside': the ped.UCiT development center, the ped.UCiT study center and the ped.UCiT treatment center.
ped.UCiT development center
The development center focuses on preclinical research aiming for the establishment of new therapeutic strategies for rare disorders. Projects using de-novo and drug repositioning approaches are undertaken either in cooperation with biotech companies or solely in-house. To assure work fluidity, the development center is equipped with several technical platforms enabling HTS approaches and target-specific orthogonal validation tests.

ped.UCiT study center
The study center supports principal investigators with regard to management, administration, implementation, and execution of investigator-initiated clinical trials (IITs) as well as with trials that are sponsored by pharmaceutical companies. In addition, the study center offers supportive technical and technological measures such as biobank or S1 laboratory fully dedicated to clinical trials.
ped.UCiT treatment center
The treatment center was established in order to provide our national and international patients with access to innovative treatments (e.g. approved gene therapy) not yet available in clinical routine. Specialized treatment teams dedicated to child dementia, lysosomal storage diseases, metabolic defects, neuromuscular diseases, and glomerulopathies ensure tailored care of individual patients.
We strongly believe that ped.UCiT is a unique approach combining knowledge, experience, multidisciplinarity, and innovation in order to enable a long-term and sustainable improvement of medical care for patients with complex and rare diseases.
