Prof. Dr. med. Marylyn M. Addo is a German internist, clinician scientist and specialist in infectious diseases and vaccine development. She studied medicine in Bonn (Germany), Strasbourg (France) and Lausanne (Switzerland) and received her MD degree in 1996 and her PhD in 1998.

After a Master's degree in "Applied Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases" and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTM & H) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 1999, she did postdoctoral research in HIV immunology at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) / Harvard Medical School (HMS) in Boston, USA.

She then became Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She was Director of the International Program and Group Leader at the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard and Associate Director of the International Program of the Harvard Center for AIDS Research (CFAR).

At the UKE, she is Full Professor (W3) of Medicine/Infectious Diseases and Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases. Her research group and laboratories are located at both the UKE and the Department of Clinical Immunology of Infectious Diseases at the Bernhard-Nocht-Institute for Tropical Medicine.

Since 2022 she is the Director of the newly founded Institute for Infection Research and Vaccine Development.

Since October 2024, Marylyn Addo has served as the spokesperson for the recently established DFG Collaborative Research Centre 1648 , entitled "Emerging Viruses: Pathogenesis, Structure, Immunity." The Centre is dedicated to the identification of critical interactions between viruses and their hosts, as well as to the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms underlying infection processes.
